In 2018, I embarked on a transformative journey under the VA's Chapter 31 program, pursuing a BS in Computer Forensics at the illustrious Metropolitan State University—all while juggling my duties at the VA.
Picture me, a multitasking virtuoso, diving deep into class texts by day and tackling real-world cyber challenges at night. As I navigated through the curriculum, it soon became clear: the job market was a narrow path, and my courses overlapped tantalizingly with a BS in Cyber Security.
So, sensing the winds of change, I adjusted my sails! I graduated in 2021, equipped not just with a degree but with a unique perspective shaped by experience and adaptability. In a world where technology dances to the beat of innovation, I'm ready to join the chorus of cybersecurity professionals, armed with knowledge and an eagerness for the extraordinary. Let's make some digital magic happen!
Unsuccessful Job Search
When I graduated, I had my sights set on diving headfirst into the thrilling worlds of Computer Forensics and Cyber Security. I envisioned myself cracking codes, uncovering digital mysteries, and saving the world, one firewall at a time. However, reality hit me like a rogue phishing attack.
Turns out, being a little more “seasoned” in life, with a taste for the finer things, can make job hunting feel like trying to catch a greased pig. My jaw dropped when I realized that entry-level positions were not exactly rolling out the red carpet for someone who already enjoys the comforts of a lavish lifestyle. My salary expectations, honed from years in the workforce, danced a bold tango far away from the entry-level pay grade.
Oh, and let’s not forget the little tidbit about my lack of hands-on experience in the field. Employers seemed to want me to have roots in cyber soil before they would even consider me for a position. So, here I was: experienced yet unqualified, comfortable yet underqualified. A perplexing paradox!
Instead of wallowing in a sea of rejection emails, I crafted my own solution: launching a business! Yes, I donned my entrepreneurial cape and set out to create a niche in the digital landscape where I could thrive. Now, I’m the captain of my own ship, navigating the exciting waters of cybersecurity and computer forensics under my own flag. Turns out, the best way to break into a field is sometimes to just build your own door and decorate it with LED lights—because who doesn’t love a little pizzazz?
